I paint to create peace for myself.
There is nothing quite like being swept up in the thrill of creativity - "finding ourselves and losing ourselves at the same time" as Thomas Merton stated. It is a process that I relish daily.
I paint to share peace with others.
When I look at a landscape, I get a glimpse of nature's wholeness, a feeling that all things are connected. The mystery of nature is that it reveals something beyond us and brings about a perspective and a harmony that quiets the mind. This harmony is the subject of my art and what I want to share with my viewers.
I paint to honor loved ones.
When I paint a portrait I aim to capture not only the likeness, but also the spirit of my subject. Through color choices and painting technique a portrait can evoke a feeling of who the subject is, and be true to that.
I paint to honor the present.
I invite people to use my paintings as centering devices- to stop during the busy day to observe, to enjoy, and to breathe in the peace that is always available to us.
My goal is to create art that serves as a bridge from the harmony of nature to the harmony within us: images that can serve as inspiration and a gentle reminder to the way back when we lose touch.
